Janet Dorneker

I am a native South Carolinian who grew up in Greenville, South Carolina. I received my BA at Furman University. I attended the University of Sydney in Australia and obtained my Masters in Education with a Literature, Literacy, and Drama focus. I began working on my second masters degree at Furman University in Middle Level Social Studies. I taught 8th grade English Language Arts in both Greenville and Pickens County. I worked with the National Middle Association on teaming in the Middle School. When I began teaching in Lexington One, I worked on several committees to integrate social studies and ELA curriculums. I began teaching at MGM in 2013. I am currently teaching 8th grade SC History. My husband, Jerry, and I moved to Lexington in 2005 when he began a new job. Our daughter, Morgan, was born in 2007. My husband and I both love sports and travel. I coached volleyball at Lexington Middle and now coach for Intense Volleyball, a juniors volleyball club in the Lexington area. We are huge Cleveland Browns fans and spend Sunday watching the NFL. I have traveled to Europe, Russia, Mexico, and Australia. I love to share my experiences with my students and encourage their love of travel. I am an avid reader and enjoy talking with students about the books they read.
